和菓子を通じて、日本の文化を英語で学ぼう！というイベントです。和菓子は、日本の儀式や慣習に深く結びついており、日本の気候や価値観が反映されています。和菓子職人の前田さんにご協力いただいて、和菓子作りの実践も交えながら、楽しく和菓子と日本文化について学びましょう。

和菓子や日本文化について、日本人でも知らないことはたくさんあると思います。あらためて英語で学ぶことによって、「外国の方にこうやって説明したらいいのか」と思ってもらえたらと考えています。もちろん、外国の方に日本の文化を深く知ってもらう機会にもしたいです。

英語と日本語の両方を使って進行しますので、英語に自信がない方でも、興味があればぜひ気軽にご参加ください。今回は春にまつわる和菓子を取り上げ、今後は季節ごとに開催していく予定です。

This is an event to learn about Japanese culture in English through Japanese confectionery (wagashi). Wagashi is deeply related to Japanese rituals and customs and reflects weather and values in Japan. With the cooperation of a wagashi confectioner, Mr. Maeda, let’s learn about wagashi and Japanese culture with having fun learning how to make wagashi.

There are many things even Japanese people don’t know about wagashi and Japanese culture. By learning about them in English, I hope participants will understand how to explain them to foreigners. Of course, I also hope that this will be a good opportunity for foreigners to learn about Japanese culture deeply.

I will speak both in English and Japanese, so it also will be a good opportunity for you to learn Japanese. This time, we pick up spring confectionery, and we will hold the same event in each season.
